West Carolina donates more than $30,000 through employee and company donations
Abbeville, SC – Showing up for our communities is a hallmark among WCTEL employees. And, with the launch of a new employee-driven foundation, they just found another way to give back to their home.
WCTEL has launched a new initiative this year known as the West Carolina Community Foundation. Funded and governed by employees, they now have the ability to donate a percentage of their monthly salary to the foundation, with WCTEL matching their contributions to the foundation.
Governed by an employee board of directors, the foundation evaluates donation opportunities, and presents contributions to organizations in need.
Community Relations Manager, Stephen Taylor, says, “WCTEL has always been supportive of our communities. Through paid volunteer time, we are able to volunteer for causes near to our hearts. This foundation takes our support to the next level. It feels great to have a voice and put our dollars together to help area organizations.”
This year has already been busy for the foundation. Since the beginning of the year, the West Carolina Community Foundation has made 20 donations totaling over $30,000. Area organizations supported include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Bags of Blessings
- Abbeville Community Outreach Center
- Anderson Meals on Wheels
- Abbeville Meals on Wheels
- McCormick Meals on Wheels
- Newberry Meals on Wheels
- Greenwood Meals on Wheels
- Pathway House Greenwood
“This program is a very unique opportunity for us,” says CEO Jeff Wilson. “It’s an opportunity for our employees to not only give back to the community, but to have a say in how we can change the community. This is home for our employees. They know this community. They know the areas that are in desperate need and the organizations that are making a difference. It’s a powerful thing to have such a large participation from our employees.”
