The heartbeat of the community

Great power. Greater responsibility.

From the beginning, we have played a vital role in shaping the communities we serve. We are ingrained in this region we call home. We are invested in our communities’ survival, health, and well-being.

Every year, West Carolina grants employees paid time off to serve their communities.

Employees make annual contributions to the the Fresh Water Coast Community Foundation, Upcountry Fiber Foundation, United Way, and American Cancer Society.

Through the Freshwater Coast Community Foundation, donor-advised funds have been established for Abbeville County, McCormick County, and Starr-Iva. Led by respective board members, West Carolina makes direct contributions to initiatives and foundations within our core cooperative areas.

West Carolina has established the West Carolina Community Foundation, a self-governed and self-sustained fund designed to provide direct community assistance. West Carolina matches all contributions up to 75 percent.

When we see a need, we roll up our sleeves.

Each November we host our annual “Give Big, Get Gig” promotion, supporting area food pantries. Customers donating at least three non-perishable food items receive a free “speed boost” to our Gig service for the month of December.

Each June, we sponsor one student from our cooperative service area to attend the FRS Youth Tour. The Youth Tour is a chance for students to visit our nation’s capital, learn about rural broadband, and share their community’s story with key legislative, regulatory, and government figures as well as a forum for them to meet and interact with their peers from other rural communities.
