How West Carolina Supported Self Regional Healthcare During Hurricane Helene

When Hurricane Helene swept through the region, it left widespread connectivity outages in its wake, including at Self Regional Healthcare (Self Regional). For a hospital dependent on Internet access for cloud-based applications critical to patient care, the situation was dire.

“Our connectivity to practices and the Internet is vital for providing care to patients,” said Les Brown, Director of Information Technology at Self Regional. “With so much of today’s technology being cloud-based, losing connectivity forced us to rely on manual disaster recovery processes, which can delay and complicate care.”

Faced with the potential impact on patient services, Self Regional turned to West Carolina. “West Carolina was able to provide Self Regional with a stable Internet circuit, restoring access to many of our cloud-based applications and services,” Brown said. “They connected service within hours of our request.”

Thanks to West Carolina’s swift action, Self Regional Healthcare regained the connectivity it needed to continue delivering high-quality care during a critical time for both the hospital and the surrounding community.

“West Carolina provided fast, reliable service during a very difficult time,” Brown said. “They have been a great partner to Self Regional.”
